Mr. Douglas Fremont is both the Chief and Associate Administrator for the Office of Defense Nuclear Security at the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Mr. Fremont is responsible for the overall direction and management of security programs at NNSA facilities and the NNSA overseas offices. As such, he provides operational and line management security support and oversight to NNSA Headquarters and field elements to assure effective security at NNSA facilities, to include physical, personnel, material control and accountability, classified and sensitive information protection, and technical security programs.
Previously, Mr. Fremont was the Deputy Associate Administrator for the Office of Defense Nuclear Security. In this capacity, he supported the Chief and Associate Administrator for Defense Nuclear Security, and directed the formulation of the programs, plans, and budget for the NNSA Enterprise-wide security programs.
In other previous assignments, Mr. Fremont served as the Deputy Director of the Office of Emergency Response and as the Executive Staff Director for the Administrator of the NNSA.
Mr. Fremont has over three decades of experience in national security, much of it associated with submarines and nuclear weapons. His extensive submarine experience includes service on the USS THOMAS JEFFERSON (SSN 618) as a Division Officer, on USS PARGO (SSN 650) as Engineer Officer, on USS PENNSYLVANIA (SSBN 735) (GOLD) as Executive Officer and as Commanding Officer of USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) (GOLD). His shore assignments included service at the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Submarine Squadron Twenty, and Submarine Group Ten.
Mr. Fremont grew up in Bristol, Connecticut, and holds degrees from the United States Naval Academy and the United States National War College. He is married to the former Rebecca (Becky) Mayhall of Birmingham, Alabama, and they have three children: Brandon, Lauren, and Thomas.
