UNVIE in Austria
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) office at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna - UNVIE supports the Department and its program offices as well as other U.S. Government (USG) agencies in carrying out assigned missions and activities at UNVIE, and represents DOE's interests and programs in pursuit of overall USG goals and objectives. The programs address issues related to national nuclear security, supporting national and international efforts to combat nuclear terrorism, energy resources, science, environmental quality and sustainable development.
DOE plays an important role in the U.S. Government Mission to UNVIE, chairing subgroups and providing policy and technical expertise which govern the export of items that are especially designed or prepared for nuclear use. The DOE representatives to the U.S. Mission provide essential technical, organizational, logistical and coordination support in the areas of international safeguards and verification, energy security, energy efficiency, peaceful applications of nuclear technology for sustainable development, export controls, and other technical assistance programs for DOE/NNSA and other USG agencies. DOE/NNSA's Vienna office plays an important role in maintaining open lines of communication, strengthening relationships between critical organizations and providing essential support to the Mission's many delegations and visitors.
